Ethiopia my last country in the Black Continent was also a mystery for me. Many travelers say that this is “the” Africa feeling, a black hole where the past is still a present here. Cyclists all over the world think that Ethiopia is one of the hardest places to be cycling in because of the children that throwing stones and sticks on the bicycles… After the crazy and dangers desert of north Kenya (after I finish it I herd about killings and robbers on the same road that I cycled a week ago…) I got to the border city Moyale in the South of Ethiopia and it was amazing to see how many things are different from this side of the border. Different language, different food and culture. Some of my best friends (the Shapira family) were in organized group that travel in North Ethiopia and I could not miss them so I left the bike in Moyale and took a 2 days long bus to the capital of Ethiopia Adis Ababa.

The Meetting with Kili mountain

Fri ,02/10/2009

The city of Arusha in north of Tanzania was like an island for me, island of tourists that are coming to make safaris in the amazing parks in the area and climbing the highest mountain in Africa the Kilimanjaro.
In Arusha I met Yonatan an Israeli guy that traveling 3  last years in Africa and India so we had good talks and it was nice to remember with him the amazing places in India and Nepal.
After 3 days of rest I felt that I need to move and decided to do the way to Kenya in my way so I added 2 days to cycle around Kilimanjaro (Kili) , you know that I have a big part of my heart to the mountains and for Kili I wanted to feel it as I can, one day I know that I will do this 7 days easy climb to the top of it.
The first days was not so interesting on the main road and the mountain was under the clouds so I could not see him but in the first night in Kenya was something to remember.
Alone in the middle of no where and it’s me and the mountain, sunset and sunrise on the kili….Something to write about.

After that I cycled on the main road to the Kenya’s capital Nairobi, and it was busy and noisy, all the big trucks that coming from the coast mad me feel how small I am and my beard was black becaus of there smoke.
The night before the big city I took a small road to get out from the highway to find a good and safe place to sleep. I had a company of zebras and genus  on the road. I I felt like I am sleeping inside of safari , 60 km from Nairobi I felt like I am sleeping in a zoo.
The city of Nairobi was hard to enter big trucks and traffic all over… but now I am happy to get some rest and a good shower that I lost 2 kg of dirt and smoke…I am staying in a nice hostel and went to meet the people from the embassy and we are  going to do some work together. Tere are now hollidays in Israel and at this time of the year I miss more then ever my friends and family. Cycling alone in Africa is more lonely then I thought and some time the locals get to my nerve. The cycling is not hard physically but mentally you need to be super strong and don’t let them get to my head. Next weeks I will do my way to Ethiopia there I am going to meet the Shapira family for 2 days so I am excited.

The road in North Kenya is known for their robbers and the buses going with an armed escort of the police so I will see what I am going to do , its going to be interesting.

Love you all
