North Spain
Mon ,08/02/2010,like always I got many things to write and every thing happen so fast in this journey…I was happy to have friends, Carlo and Silvia, in la Corunia and the North West side of Spain.
Very nice city with amazing Atlantic Ocean coast. Tell you the truth I had some problem to start my way I was too comftble in Spain and the weather didn’t help for the feeling.…I looked at the map of my next months and calculated all the distance and days like everything was sure and easy I just need to get on the bike and that it… easy to say but hard to do, the first step in every journey is the hardest one after that everything will be easier.
Me and Carlo went to a cold swim in the ocean and the next time that I will swim in salty water it will be in Hong Kong (I think)…The first km was little weird and hard because of the heavy traffic and I needed quite to listen to my mind and to get to the feeling of the road. After half a day I started to remember what it all about I didn’t know that I will miss the life of the adventure so much and I was excited like a small kid going to zoo…
After crossing Africa, Europe is different… black and white in many ways.
The roads are good and the people understand me (because my Spanish), normal life is expensive, more then 10 times more expensive then Africa…
I like the road and the people are so nice and helping if you need, because I was in the “Marca” the leading paper in Spain everything was easier , in the evening when I asked to camp in some garden they invite me to their house I talked with them.
The ocean is amazing and the Galicia is very good cycling its windy and rainy but it’s worth it.
From Galicia I went to Asturias and I have many good things to say about this place.
First, it’s very pretty but I think that I ate the best food that I had ever. In the city of Gijon I have 2 good friends, Aduardo and Marco, that I meet in really shitty place in Ethiopia and now we meet her in the coast of Asturias… what a small world.
Eduardo was amazing host and he showed me where is the best places to eat in north of Spain.
He got me a “small” present as tickets to the football league Barcelona and sporting gijon!!! Other then the game I have to right that I had the best time in gijon and eat almost all the things that you can find in the sea…
North Spain it’s a place with a character and with good energy, a lot of cows and ships everywhere, it’s very green because of the amount of rain in the year.
“Sometimes it’s not raining” someone told me. About the landscapes it was really good cycling, in one side the North Sea and the other side the white picks of the “Picos de Europa”.
All the nights I slept in some garden or that some one inviting me to sleep in his garage or house …
In one nice remote house I spent the evening with the nice family and the kid told to his mom:
“We got a lot of luck that this guys his cycling around the world and from all the places in the world he is spending a night with us!”
“Call us when you get to Hong Kong” the kid told me.
In every night I got more friends and more places to visit again in this amazing country, Spain for me it’s one of my favorite places to leave, I like the culture and the people are amazing with good humor and they know how to enjoy life. You can see 70 years people going to have a drink with their childhood friends and with the grandchildren.
People her drink not to get drunk they drinking to spend a time with the people they love.
Right now I am in Durango a small town next to Bilbao in the Basque country with my good friend Oier that I cycled with him in Patagonia, on the people of this place I could write books let’s just say that they are crazy(in a good way) and funny to be with.
I am ready now to start my last days in Spain to France and to start another different chapter in our journey
Love you all
