finished the great blind ride
Posted on Mon ,04/07/2011 by Roei SadanI know ask my self the same question that I asked 5 years ago when I looked at the map of the world.
“from where to start???”
its been amazing and busy 2 weeks, weeks that I know that I will remember for long time.
the great ocean road!
Me and orli(the blind lady that join me) had another 500 km to go before finishing our journey in Melbourne.
It was about time to meet the” great ocean road” in Victoria coast,, a really famous rout in south Australia with dramatic views from cliffs to the ocean. In one word amazing.
Its been a little cold and some times wet but it is the winter so it was OK in a way…
with the time we started to understand each other more and more. To cycle with someone all the day it is a big challenge for me because I used to be alone with no one to share this amazing places.
sights from the great ocean road
Orly told me that she enjoying the sounds of the parrots and bird, she can feel the ocean and the green hills that we climbed.
"and here we got a cow"
After 2 weeks together we knew what kind of music we both love and shared some wisdom from the road.
Orly cant see almost anything only some lights but I can tell you that she saw more things that this planets has to offer then most of the people that I know and they got 2 eyes that working fine.
touching the sea
I loved to see that even if she blind she cant see the obstacle that life bring us.
Cycling with her taught me many things that I didn’t know about me and it was learning time for me.
“in dreams begins responsibility” and for me it was new feelings to always see if everything is OK for some one else, 4 years alone on a bike and I got so much to learn for the future.
We had with us Asaf with the camper van that made us everything more easier and comfortable, cook for us and gave us escort and its nice to know that there is always some one that wait for you with a hot tea or coffee… he did good job to help Orly with her needs in the time that I wasn’t with her on the bike, its not easy work ,believe me , but asaf did it with love and when he needed to rest he had is smoking time with amazing ocean views.
the great Asaf
Orly is strong woman and I didn’t think for a second that I am doing all the work on the bicycle and we pushed each other while I am telling her stories from the world and she is telling me stories about Israel just to help me with the up coming future.
enjoying the last days
One day I shared with Orly the landscapes that we just crossing. And when we stopped to take some photos I saw that she is got tears that going down from her eyes to her cheeks, I didn’t know why its happen and didn’t want to talk about it so I just hug her and we continue our trip and only days after she explained why she cried:” its really frustrated to see a little and now I cant see anything and you are excited from landscapes that I cant see so it was a sad moment for me”
we got to the city of Geelong in the outskirts of the big city of Melbourne and it was the end of our journey.
This 2 weeks were more challenging then I thought more then any desert that I crossed, with a lot of emotions, good and bad, with moments that I never thought that I will have in this journey.
Maybe because I was in extreme “lonesome” and needed quickly to adjust my self for another extreme of “together” with a blind person that I don’t really know before, it more then just a blind date
guest are coming to breakfast
we hugged and celebrated this great achieving in Melbourne and we know that we will have more rids in the future.
I learned a lot from this 2 weeks, as a human being and as adventurer that want to push other people for there challenges in life.
I learned that I can see more with a blind person next to me.
I would like to thank anyone that helped orly and me in this great massage and I hope to share with you all the thoughts and moments in my book one day.
Orly has gone back to Israel and I soon I will write about the amazing time in the city of Melbourne.
